The Great Pyramid Race is an Endurance Sporting Event organised by The Great Pyramid Race and Country Fair Association Inc. volunteer commitee, as a service to the local community of Gordonvale, QLD. The event is held annually in August, since its inception in 1959 and is attended by up to 5,000 spectators (local, interstate and international), making it one of the largest and most vibrant events in the region.
Activities include the Great Pyramid Race, the Half Pyramid Race, Race to the Base, 3km Race, 1800m Juniors Race Charity Fun Run and Dash for Cash Races. The event is hosted in Norman Park in the centre of Gordonvale, including a small (remove) selection of sponsor stalls, massive markets, raffles and kids activities to keep families entertained while awaiting the return of family and friends competing in events.

In 2019 the race was filmed by Peter Busoli (a Gordonvale local) who now resides in Melbourne, and Marcus and Dave who helped to cover the event. They have put together a documentary that has been taken on by SBS.
Over it’s 60+ years history, The Great Pyramid Race has been proudly supported by a wide range of sponsors. Most recently, Woolworths has served as the major event sponsor, alongside many valued supporting sponsors. The event has experienced strong growth over the past decade, with race entries selling our across most categories in both 2024 and 2025.
