The Great Pyramid Race is an Endurance Sporting Event organised by The Great Pyramid Race and Country Fair Association Inc., as a service to the local community of Gordonvale, QLD. The event is held annually in August, since its inception in 1959 and is attended by up to 5,000 spectators (local, interstate and international), making it one of the largest and most vibrant events in the region.
Activities include the Great Pyramid Race, the Half Pyramid Race, Race to the Base, 3km Race, 1800m Juniors Race and the Charity Fun Run. The event is hosted in Norman Park in the centre of Gordonvale, including a small selection of stalls associated with health and fitness, healthy food options, and a activities to keep kids and families entertained while awaiting the return of family and friends competing in events.
Historically, the Great Pyramid Race Event was a combination of the sporting event and a country fair. Since 2021, town of Gordonvale has celebrated the country fair as “The Gordonvale Sugar Solstice” in June, aligning the fair with the start of the annual sugar crushing season.

In 2019 the race was filmed by Peter Busoli (a Gordonvale local) who now resides in Melbourne, and Marcus and Dave who helped to cover the event. They have put together a documentary that has been taken on by SBS.
